Vanquish or Vanish – The Wise Warfare of Retreat

Wrestle demons, Paul implores

With weapons God supplies,

But flee from lust with hurried feet

And gouge out both your eyes.

Resist the Devil, draw the sword,

The Word commands us “Fight!”

But Proverbs seven bids us run

From passion’s call at night.

There is a lion in the camp

Resist him in your faith!

But from the wife of Potiphar

We risk death to escape.

There is a time to intercede

And battle foes unseen,

But slaves of Christ, bought with a price

Keep Master’s robes pristine.

  1. Oh the terrible lion in the camp! I become instantly terrorized and immobile at his roar! I fear him the most for I know he will surely tear me to pieces and painfully destroy me. I cry out “God! Help!” and remind myself I fear Him more! He is my refuge and strength, He is my help and hope. Again, thank you for your well written and timely poem. Always in His grip, Deb
