Grace in Review (Thanksgiving)

Thankful.

O, my soul, give thanks!

For electing love that watched you play

As a child those summer days

When heaven seemed so far away

O, my soul, give thanks!

Thankful.

O, my lips, give thanks!

For poison once your favorite sip

A better taste has loosed its grip

Bread and wine the chastening whip

O, my lips, give thanks!

Thankful.

O, my ears, give thanks!

For echoes of your loved ones’ prayers

A steady pace up heaven’s stairs

Pleading for your life to spare

O, my ears, give thanks!

Thankful.

O, my feet, give thanks!

For providence that halted you

An unseen nail in your left shoe

A thousand sorrows you never knew

O, my feet, give thanks!

Thankful.

O, my eyes, give thanks!

For light on your Damascus road

A brighter glory to behold

To see the new eclipse the old

O, my eyes, give thanks!

Thankful.

O, my heart, give thanks!

Your chambers once swelled not for God

But love’s transfusion healed the clot

Christ’s blood grants what once was not

O, my heart, give thanks!
